If buying the tohatsumerc I would get the 30 hp as its identical to the 25 except for the ecu programming. I would bet the tohatsumerc is faster and smoother.

Both of these 4 cylinder engines will have great low end torque the Mercury having a slight displacement edge 21L to 18L and Yamaha having a slight edge with the DOHC 4 valve design making more power up top. Its a three cylinder vs the Yamaha being a twin. The Mercury 400 is 6 cylinder and 26 liters coming in at about 700 pounds.

Questions I looked on the website Yamaha is 5 year warranty but cant find info on Mercury warranty. The Yamaha 425 is 8 cylinder and about 970 pounds with 56 liters. With a Pro Series 21 prop 14 ½ diameter mounted on the 4 position same as the Evinrude we see 55 MPH at 6000 RPM.

The 350 Mercury appears to be the same engine.
